    About us

Uralba Hostel is a true asset to our community. It was the people of Gundagai who inspired and funded our unique project, and it is with great pride that we have served that same community for over 25 years with the very highest standard of aged home care.

Our journey began way back in 1988 when the community's incredible efforts were rewarded and initial planning was completed. The first stage of construction commenced and was completed soon after in 1989. More rooms were added in 1996, and our facility now has accommodation for 18 permanent residents, with a respite room specifically designed to offer temporary care. These incredible facilities are available for any person who has been assessed as 'low care residential' by the aged care assessment team.

Uralba hostel is administered by a voluntary community board who ensure the facility is run by the community, for the community, and to uphold the values and aims set out in our mission statement.

    Our mission statement

Uralba Hostel aims to provide an effective and efficient aged care facility, specifically designed from the ground up to meet the needs of our residents and the expectations of the community that built us. Our mission is to provide a safe, caring, home-like environment that focuses on giving residents the dignity, privacy and respect they deserve, regardless of race, colour, creed or religion.

We promise that every resident will:

    • Be provided with all the personal care they require, in a discreet and dignified manner.
    • Be encouraged to retain living skills and independence.
    • Receive assistance, encouragement and be afforded the opportunity to take part in a range of activities, both in the hostel and the wider community.
    • Be treated as a valuable member of the community.
    • Be treated at all times with courtesy and respect.
    • Have their own personal space in their rooms, with every care being taken to maintain privacy and dignity.
    • Be assisted and encouraged to live to their highest potential, with a special focus on helping people to achieve the maximum possible enjoyment from each and every day.
    • Be provided with security, safety and a home-like family environment.
    • Have their individual choices respected, with regards to medical care and spiritual or cultural needs, and will be given assistance at all times to pursue these where required.

Our experienced staff and the board of volunteers are committed to a continuous monitoring and assessment process to ensure that our facilities, operations and procedures reflect this important mission statement and that our reputation for exceptional care continues to grow.
